Project: Full Home Design - Clearwater, Fl - Delivered in 1 Week

(Recent design project - completed kitchen rendering).

A project with speed is only a consequence and an indicator that the design process is going well and running smoothly.

We live in a society where time seems to be one of the most valuable assets but also one of the most punished ones. We see this in everyday’s professional life: a person often gets paid for the time spent in doing something, so a slow person automatically gets more rewarded than the fast person does.

In Architecture and Design this is no different. Many firms bill by the hour and take many of them to get something decent done.

At Levy Design Group we “DESIGN AT THE SPEED OF TECHNOLOGY”. This means that we use advanced technology and a unique workflow that allows delivering full design projects in less than a week.

We recently ran into a quite amusing situation where a beloved client mentioned that it was too fast; that they loved the design, but were unsure of how it was even possible and “what it meant” in terms of the project. Fair enough, we’ve delivered a full interior renovation project for a house in less than 6 days, including every step of the process: from the 3D Scanning and measuring of the space, interviews with the client, to material selections, plans, elevations, diagrams and perspectives. As part of this process we worked with the Home Love Construction team, a construction company that shares our vision in terms of speed of delivery (they even have a same day estimate service which is pretty awesome).

We know that this “speedy-concept” will make slower firms uncomfortable and maybe they’ll even try to make a point about the quality of the work, but the truth is that billions of dollars are spent every year in design specific software and hardware that basically make miracles, if you know how to use it right.

To make this point even more clear, one day while testing our new 3D printer a friend approached Arie and asked him to see one of the printed models. Since the printer was new Arie didn’t have anything to show, but while his friend was having coffee he designed a coffee coaster with a phone support in less than five minutes and printed it in 40 minutes. This design was a full prototype of a product, brought to reality thanks to his skill in 3D software and the 3D printer.

So what’s the work behind this and how did we get here? We actually did spend a lot of time researching, working and designing. Practice made us faster, experience showed us the fastest routes.

Now the time gets spent in creativity, communication with the client and in making sure that the result gets there, because man, we just live so many years and we shouldn’t be spending our most valuable asset unsuccessfully trying to save some pennies.
